Is your machine connectivity a continuous hassle or a strategic asset?
Oliver Herzig

Why do so many software implementations stall on the shop floor? One part to this is the machine interface. When connectivity is just a ‘checkbox’ during the purchasing process instead of a strategy, integration becomes a time sink instead of a competitive advantage.
Connectivity isn’t just about cables; it’s about making machines "self-describing" and secure by design. In my experience, OPC UA is the best way to scale this properly.
I’ve just written a new Whitepaper on the different aspects of OPC UA. Over the coming weeks, I’ll break it down in a 5-part series:
- Interconnectivity: The power of a single-protocol shop floor.
- Semantics: Why "context" beats "raw data" (with Video).
- OT Security: Moving to Zero Trust with Encryption and Authentication (with Video).
- The Umati Reality: Using standards as blueprints, not laws.
- The Comparison: OPC UA vs. MQTT & MTConnect & others.
I’ll share the full Whitepaper at the end of the series.
